3D scanning.
Capture the shape of a physical part as a digital 3D file. Use it as a reference for a new design, a replacement part, or work in your own software.
Local pickup and delivery by arrangement.Mail-in parts accepted by arrangement.
What scanning is for
Capture the shape.
A useful starting point when curves and complex surfaces are difficult to measure by hand.
Vehicle & equipment parts
Capture covers, housings, trim, and other accessible components for reference or further design work.
Designing around a part
Use an existing surface as a reference for a bracket, enclosure, adapter, or mating component.
Replacement projects
Capture a part before rebuilding it as CAD or preparing a reproduction. Additional modeling may be needed.
Curved & molded shapes
Record contours on molded, cast, or irregular parts that are not described by a few simple dimensions.
What you receive
A scan file. A useful starting point.
The quote defines the areas to capture, the cleanup included, and the file you will receive.
Mesh file
Captured surface geometry
A digital surface made from small triangles, commonly supplied as an STL. Tell us which software you plan to use.
Scan cleanup
Preparation for your project
Unwanted background and scan artifacts are removed within the agreed scope. Missing areas are discussed rather than assumed to be accurate.
CAD option
A separate modeling step
Need a CAD solid or geometry you can modify? Reverse engineering can be quoted alongside the scan.
A scan is not automatically a CAD model or a file ready for printing. The next step depends on what you need to make.
Getting a useful scan
The part sets the limits.
Surface finish, size, and access affect what can be captured. Reflective, dark, or transparent parts may need temporary scanning spray or markers; preparation is discussed before work begins.
Only visible, accessible surfaces can be captured. Hidden cavities, deep holes, and damaged areas may need other measurements or additional modeling.
Tell us about critical fits or dimensions before quoting. A surface scan alone does not certify tolerances or guarantee that a replacement will fit.
Before you book
Common questions.
Will I receive a STEP file?
A scan-only project normally provides a mesh, not a STEP solid. Rebuilding the part as CAD is a separate service, and the required deliverables are agreed before work starts.
Can a scan be 3D printed?
Sometimes, but not every scan is ready to print. Gaps, thin features, and missing surfaces may need repair or modeling. Printing and any additional preparation are quoted separately.
Can you scan a broken part?
Often, enough of the shape remains to make scanning useful. Missing geometry may need to be reconstructed from measurements, matching parts, or reference information.
What affects the price?
Part size, surface preparation, scan access, capture time, and the cleanup or modeling required. Photos and a clear end goal help define the work.
Do I need to be local?
No. Suitable parts can be mailed in after the project and return arrangements are confirmed. Local handoff can be arranged in Southern Oregon. Large or installed items need an access and location review first.

What do you need scanned?
Send photos, approximate dimensions, and what you need the file for. Include your location, any critical features, and your deadline.
